SMS Subscription

The SMS Subscription page is a central place for all opt-in/opt-out phone numbers, where you can manage SMS subscriptions.

If the number has been added with an opt-out flag, the system will not send any SMS communication to this number.

  • Type: The type of SMS subscription. It can be either opt-in or opt-out.
  • Subscription List: The type of subscription list where the phone number is included. It can be either the System Internal list that impacts all your campaigns or a campaign-specific list.
  • Source: The source of the subscription.

    • Manually Subscribed: this source will be assigned if the user imports/adds opt-in numbers.
    • Manually Unsubscribe: this source will be assigned if the user imports/adds opt-out numbers.
    • Customer Subscribe: assigned if the customer opts in through SMS or the external payment portal at the contact verification step.
    • Customer Unsubscribe: assigned if the customer opts in through SMS or the external payment portal at the contact verification step.

Add SMS Subscription

To manually add an SMS Subscription, click on the 'Add SMS Subscription' button. Complete the required fields and enter the phone number(s) you would like to add to the SMS subscription. If you add multiple phone numbers, make sure to separate them with a comma. When done, click 'Add' to proceed.

You will see a confirmation message that contains the following information:

  • The number of records updated.
  • The number of records added successfully.
  • The number of invalid records found.

Opt-Out Keywords and Stop Words

DCDial automatically processes incoming text messages and recognizes English-language stop words. Stop words are specific words such as STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE that signal that a person no longer wishes to receive messages from you.

When DCDial identifies a stop word, the person's phone number is added to the opt-out list, and you will no longer be able to send messages to that number.

Please note: Any further messages from your account that are sent to a number on the opt-out list will not be processed.

DCDial recognizes the following English-language stop words:

  • stop
  • stopall
  • stop all
  • unsubscribe
  • cancel
  • end
  • quit

Please note that stop words are only recognized if they are the only words in the message. For example, "stop all" is recognized, but "please stop all messages" would not be recognized.

How to opt back into receiving messages?

To restart messages, the number that opted out has to send any of the following opt-in keywords to the exact same number they opted out from:

  • start
  • unstop

Who handles the auto-response from an opt-out?

If your customer decides to opt-out via one of the above stop words towards your numbers, DCDial will automatically send out a generic unsubscribed message.
